I'm a high school English teacher, so it is no surprise that I love Laura's Lit Knit Etsy shop. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Laura knits beautiful gloves, hats, scarves, home goods (and more!), all inspired by some of her favorite writers and authors. Just take a look at the Kate Chopin Tidbit Bowl that she is giving away in our Great Gift, Good Cause Giveaway!
"This bright little bowl is designed for everyday use. Hand-knit with pure wool, its open shape makes it perfect for keeping rings or other jewelry safe while you wash your hands or do the dishes. It can also work to hold spare change or keys – any tidbit will do." This little bowl was inspired by American writer Kate Chopin who wrote, "The past was nothing to her; offered no lesson which she was willing to heed. The future was a mystery which she never attempted to penetrate. The present alone was significant."
And not only does the literature lover in me adore Laura's work, but so does the cat lover. A portion of Laura's profits are donated to Alley Cat Allies. "Every spring, thousands of kittens are born to homeless, hungry mom-cats. In an effort to support humane solutions to the ever-growing feral cat and kitten population, our own Puss in Boots presents the first annual Lit Knits 'Kitten Season' Fundraiser! This year, 50% of sales from all Puss in Boots gloves and accessories go to Alley Cat Allies. Puss in Boots accessories are simple knits accented with cat paw prints, which serve as a reminder of our feline friends and our responsibility to look out for their interests. For more information or to become an ally, visit Alley Cat Allies."
