Day 10: A Comfortable Space

Craft paper covers the kid-sized table that sits in the corner of our dining room. While my two year old climbs contentedly in and out of the little chairs, dangling his feet as he happily colors away, my husband's knees crowd his chest as he pulls up close to draw the dragon my son has requested. Yet he does it happily. This is the space where my two artists are most comfortable, creating Crayola masterpieces together.

Today for our Joy of Love assignment, I'm to use what I've learned about metering, shutter speed, and ISO (still not sure what ISO is, but I know the higher it is, the grainier the pic), to capture the space a loved one is most comfortable in. At first I try to capture my son creating play-doh rocket ships at his art table, but the lighting is bad. It's a dark room with mocha-colored walls. The images are either blurs of creation, my son a swirling mess of activity, or pixelated and grainy as I jack up the ISO. I couldn't get it right.

So I wait until my boys are napping to snap a few shots of their art corner. It is never this quiet, this calm. I think I might like the blurred shots better.

  3. Thanks so much! I've really been enjoying the Joy of Love project. Not only am I able to spend time photographing my loved ones, but I'm also taking time to reflect and write. At the end of the month, I think I'll take all these blog posts and pictures and use a service like Blurb or Shutterfly to turn it into a family book. We'll see.
